The Opportunity to be a Changemaker…

The Manager, Fragile and Humanitarian role exists to clearly demonstrate a credible account of change with our field for our supporter segments, in the most Fragile and Very Low Developing Contexts and to ensure WVA is contributing to impact in global emergency response.

On the day to day basis, the manager will be accountable for:

  • Role modelling behaviours and actions that build a culture of trust - igniting the personal gifts and passions of self and others to become impact led and market informed.
  • Actively seeking and create opportunities for self and others, to effectively connect and collaborate across our enterprise, market and field to realise our full potential.
  • Operational responsibility for WVA Disaster Management:
    • providing (DM) leadership for CAT III Global and SHE Responses in developing countries;
    • providing mentoring/support to Field Impact Country Impact Managers/Officers for management of Humanitarian programming in Developing Countries.
  • Operational responsibility for WVA Crisis Response including facilitation of PSG/SSG functions, and negotiations/engagement with WVI DMT.
  • Providing a mentoring (SME) function for Very Low - High Developing Context Country Impact Managers/Officers to build capacity in Humanitarian and WFP programming.
  • Operational responsibility for WFP: Oversight of WFP portfolio and negotiations with DMT as required.
  • Rapid Deployment: management of the WVA Surge Roster and oversight of training/capability and deploy rapidly for senior response management in a CAT III Global. In the event of Surge Response Management, this role will manage teams of response staff.
  • Management of AHP Support Unit relationship (focal point for WVA) and Lead in the event Emergency AHP activations.
  • Contributing strategically and operationally as a member of the Fragile & Very Low Developing Contexts leadership team.

 

Who we are looking for…

  • Demonstrated in-country experience in (WV) Emergency Response Management;
  • Demonstrated program and project management experience, including large and complex grant acquisition and management;
  • Partnering with government or multilateral agencies, including leading a key relationship;
  • Building successful collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders; 
  • Proven experience in humanitarian sector, including in fragile contexts;
  • Excellent spoken and written English, with strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of humanitarian principles, disaster management cycle, project cycle and relevant technical and accountability standards within the industry including EMS and DMS;
  • Demonstrated understanding of humanitarian coordination mechanisms and donor landscape;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of International Response standards including CHS, Sphere, ICRC Code of Conduct;
  • Strong understanding of the international humanitarian system and organisations;
  • Relevant post-graduate qualifications: may include humanitarian, or equivalent experience in a relevant role;
  • Available to be deployed to an emergency context within 72 hours of activation.

This role is a permanent position operating in a full-time capacity and will be based at our head office in Burwood East, Victoria.
