Why World Vision…

World Vision is a global community of millions, working together for one purpose: to change the lives of vulnerable children.

Our supporters, partners and staff join forces with communities on the ground to help children achieve good health, access education for life, experience the love of God and their neighbours and are cared for, protected and participating. Together we share proven, world-class development methods to bring food, water, education and economic change.

Our organisational culture reflects a "Partnership" of World Vision offices in nearly 100 countries and almost 37,000 staff working towards one vision: Our vision for every child, life in all its fullness. Our prayer for every heart, the will to make it so.  World Vision has profound global impact reaching one person every 10 secs with clean water, and every 60 secs a family gets access to tools and support they need to get out of poverty.

In Australia, World Vision is an iconic brand and market leader in a sector that is renewing itself for the 21st century. Brand metrics are improving, staff engagement growing, donor satisfaction and delight is improving, and public advocacy has been significant and powerful in bringing change.  The organisation is also undergoing significant digital renewal exploring and drawing upon a range of digital tools to refresh donor direct experiences of the powerful transformation work of World Vision.

The Opportunity to lead a team of Changemakers…

Reporting to the Head of Risk, the Business Assurance Manager will be accountable to diagnose the systemic gaps there are around WVA’s business assurance capabilities in order to design, develop and implement a risk-based Compliance Framework to ensure that compliance processes and culture align with WVA’s mission, values, strategic goals and the overarching policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Design, develop and implement a risk-based Compliance Framework
  • Provide Compliance related training in co-ordination with broader training requirements
  • Embed a culture of compliance throughout the whole organisation that reinforces line management accountability
  • Liaise with those accountable for organisational policies to ensure that they are aware of and accountable
  • Coordinate policy owners across WVA to review their operationally owned policies and ensure they are implementing adequate business processes to comply with these policies
  • Input into Management Policies to facilitate strong compliance outcomes
  • Develop a Compliance plan and monitor this through a structured process
  • Conduct periodic risk-based compliance reviews and ensure the owning business function develops improvement plans against any identified gaps and areas of vulnerability
  • Coordinate operational management in the investigation and follow up of identified compliance issues
  • Assess and determine in consultation with the Head of Risk and other stakeholders whether incidents are required to be reported to Regulators and support the relevant business owner in corresponding with the appropriate authorities
  • Provide and/or support relevant (general) reporting to key stakeholders

A secondary role will be to assist Head of Risk in more general risk and internal audit related functions which will potentially embrace acting for this role from time to time.

Who we are looking for…

  • Experience in developing and then embedding a comprehensive compliance function and framework within a reasonably complex organisation that has to consider organisational policies, legal requirements, other operational needs
  • Maintaining a compliance function through a pragmatic, risk-based approach
  • Risk management experience
  • Experience of the processes around internal audits (rather than the actual execution of an audit) is desirable
  • Knowledge of regulatory and legislative requirements applicable to the NFP and corporate sectors

To be successful in this compliance function, the successful candidate will therefore need to also have sophisticated change management capabilities at the executive level and then down through relevant operational management levels.
