Reporting to the Manager, Program Effectiveness & Development, we are seeking a Safeguarding Technical Advisor - AFNP to lead the development and implementation of strong safeguarding practice, approaches and culture across the Australia First Nations Program (AFNP).
The primary focus is on contextualising WVA’s safeguarding policy for First Nations programs and strengthening the safeguarding capability of staff and communities in which we work through guidance and training.
Through technical advice and direction, this role supports the implementation of WV’s Child and Adult Safeguarding Policy & Guidelines and works closely with the WVA Safeguarding Unit.
Your main duties and responsibilities will include:
- Policy Management, Contextualisation, Monitoring, Implementation & Advice by supporting the continuous improvement of WVA’s safeguarding policy and practice, and by co-ordinating AFNP’s response to all safeguarding related internal audits and programs of work.
- Support the management of AFNP Safeguarding Incidents & Reporting by supporting AFNP staff to report safeguarding incidents, by developing AFNP’s Safeguarding Incident Preparedness Plan and by co-ordinating AFNP’s Safeguarding risk and compliance reporting.
- Building Capacity & Awareness by establishing a safeguarding culture, and designing, delivering and co-ordinating annual workplan to track progress of safeguarding training and capacity building activities with staff, projects and partners.
- Provision of strategic safeguarding programming advice by developing a written AFNP safeguarding situational assessment, and providing sectoral technical expertise for grants, advocacy or policy initiatives
Your skills and experience will include:
- Experience in creating, developing and implementing high quality policies, procedures and guidelines in a culturally appropriate manner
- Experience in designing and delivering safeguarding training for a range of audiences
- Broad understanding of Safeguarding within First Nations contexts
- Experience in supporting staff respond to safeguarding issues and reporting requirements
- Support, mentor and coach staff to develop safeguarding competence and confidence
- Experience in researching and designing initiatives to strengthen safeguarding practices and responses
What you need to know
This role is 2 years fixed term contract operating in a full-time capacity. We will consider applicants-based Australia wide subject to the person having the flexibility to travel as required to fulfil the requirements of the role.
This is an Indigenous-identified position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent.
