The position

 The Program Manager is accountable for supporting regionally based project teams to successfully implement community development projects, to engage and develop regional networks, relationships and partnerships with First Nations organisations and communities and contribute to improved impact for families and children. This leadership role is also responsible for the successful implementation of the Central Australia Regional Area Plan and contributes to broader WVA fundraising activities to support our ongoing work in the region.

Your role plays an integral part in the organisation, enabling us to support our vision of empowering Australians to create meaningful change in partnership with First Nations communities and families.  

 In addition to this you will

  • Ensure that Projects and Project Managers deliver project activities as per donor and WVA requirements and in line with approved annual implementation plan and approved budgets for projects
  • Management of incoming supporters, government and WVA corporate engagement requests such as field visits, policy engagement & participation in major donor events  
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Program Management and Effectiveness, undertake feasibility assessments for new project work and broker new project funding and operational set up arrangements
  • Support Project Managers to ensure all operational aspects of regional projects (Risk, Legal, Property, OH&S, P&C) are compliant with WV policies and issues arising are responded to in a timely and effective manner
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Business Development, Sustainable & Economic Growth to identify sustainable funding opportunities for existing and new work.
  • Working with the Manager of Field Operations ensure staff are cared for and supported, ensuring sufficient operational support available to remote offices

Contract role based in Northern Territory until June 2024, Remote allowance and relocation assistance provided.

Who we’re looking for 

We are looking for someone with proven leadership skills and qualities who has a real positive community development approach.

You will also have:

  • Excellent written and highly effective verbal communication skills and ability to use these to engage and influence a broad range of stakeholders
  • Experience leading diverse work teams to collaboratively work together and produce outcomes
  • People management including coaching, getting things done through others and developing the capabilities of others
  • Understanding of the cultural, political, economic and social issues affecting Aboriginal people in Central Australia
  • Understanding of First Nations policy and programming areas, specifically in relation to children and youth.
  • Demonstrated experience working in the Australian Indigenous development sector
  • Background in providing team, project, and strategy leadership within complex environments
  • Experience brokering and maintaining successful funding agreements and collaborations with Government agencies and First Nations organisations
