The position

The role of Manager – Media & Communications is instrumental in achieving World Vision’s goal to be the most influential organisation in the NGO & related sectors in Australia. This is a great all-rounder position, you will be able to develop and pitch great yarns to the Australian media and understand how that connects into the broader Corporate Affairs strategy.

You will be a strategic thinker who can help deliver the Corporate Affairs strategy across a broad ranges of tasks and projects. The role requires a broad understanding of the Australian media and political landscape and knowledge of the functioning of a Corporate Affairs team.

Responsibilities:

  • Pitching stories to Australian media, drafting briefing documents, supporting the team through management of the media monitoring service and driving campaign research & reporting
  • Helping to build and maintain the reputation of World Vision to the broader Australian public through targeted, high-profile campaigns which grab the attention of decision makers and donors
  • Thinking of creative, newsworthy hooks for the stories World Vision seeks to tell
  • Develop high quality communications products through directing internal resources or external agencies
  • Drafting briefing documents for high level media engagements and other events
  • Support our signature campaigns with an eye to influential media and government engagement
  • Manage and enhance WVA’s approach to data driven campaigning
  • Manage and enhance the relationship with WVA’s media monitoring service

Who we’re looking for 

You will be a driven self starter, team player and eager to collaborate across the function. You will have a strong interest in current affairs and be great at pitching stories.

You will have:

  • 3 - 5 years of proven experience in similar roles
  • Strong communications, planning and project management skills
  • A broad understanding of the Australian media and political landscape and to translate that to be relevant to the operations and strategy of the organisation
  • Strong relationship skills and an ability to manage a broad array of both internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills – in particular at delivering targeted political engagement campaigns
  • Year 12 or vocational equivalent
  • University Degree, preferably with a background in politics or communications
