The Young Mob Project is a youth leadership and cultural learning program delivered in partnership with the NSW Department of Education and First Nations partner organisations. It supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to build confidence, leadership, and a strong sense of belonging and cultural pride.
 
The Opportunity:
As the Project Manager, Young Mob, you’ll lead the successful implementation of the project in Sydney and assist in the transition of projects in the Hunter Valley region. You’ll manage a passionate team of facilitators and coordinators, foster strong partnerships with schools and communities, and ensure the program’s sustainability through collaboration with First Nations partner organisations.
Working closely with the Programming and Partnering Manager (Youth), you’ll support program delivery, continuous improvement, and the gradual transition of activities to community ownership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead participatory implementation planning and ensure activities are delivered according to the Implementation Plan.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, schools, facilitators, and advisory groups.
- Manage budgets, grant funding, and project resources in accordance with World Vision Australia policies and ensure compliance requirements are met.
- Manage and mentor the Young Mob team, fostering a strong sense of connection, purpose, and professional growth.
- Plan and lead camps and extension activities, ensuring compliance with safeguarding and risk management standards.
- Monitor and evaluate project progress, ensuring alignment with grant requirements and strategic outcomes.
- Manage budgets, grant funding, and project resources in accordance with World Vision Australia policies.
- Produce project reports, communications materials, and donor updates.
- Host site visits by donors, ambassadors, and stakeholders, sharing stories of impact and community success.
 
About You:
We’re looking for a motivated and culturally grounded leader who is passionate about empowering First Nations young people and supporting their leadership journeys.
You will have:
- Excellent understanding of the cultural, political, and social context of First Nations life across Sydney and the Hunter Koori community—particularly for Aboriginal youth.
- Demonstrated success working with Aboriginal young people, families, and organisations to achieve meaningful outcomes.
- Proven project management experience in complex social and community settings.
- Strong training, coaching, and mentoring skills.
- Experience using positive youth development or strengths-based approaches.
- Understanding of issues affecting young people, including identity, gender, sexuality, and social disadvantage.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to multiple audiences.
- Qualifications in youth work, community development, social science and other relevant qualifications
- A current Working with Children Check and the ability to drive a manual 4WD.
- Full COVID-19 vaccination (required for the role).
