The position
As the Data Privacy Manager for World Vision Australia (WVA), you will be the central point of contact for all privacy‑related queries from supporters, internal teams, the OAIC, and third‑party suppliers. You will steward WVA’s Privacy Policy and provide trusted guidance on privacy matters, helping us protect the people we serve while enabling our mission to empower Australians to create meaningful change for vulnerable children and adults around the world.
Key Responsibilities
- The implementation of World Vision’s data privacy strategy
- Review and update WVA Privacy Policy as required by audit/regulation updates
- Conducting due diligence across relevant third-party vendors to ensure Australian Privacy Act standards are met
- Manage privacy risks on org wide risk register and implement and manage breach response for WVA, and manage responses with OAIC as required
- Continue to uplift org wide knowledge on Australian privacy regulation and impacts including the facilitation education of WVA staff in privacy fundamentals
- Managing the cross functional working group (privacy council) and ensure ongoing delivery of privacy knowledge across the organisation and work with the business to ensure privacy by design is embedded across relevant business initiatives involving personal information
- Ongoing management of the flow and storage of personal data, internally & externally, including the impact of AI
- Develop reporting capability and establish a regular operating rhythm for senior executive updates
Who we’re looking for
As the successful applicant, you will have a breadth of capabilities, including a strong service approach towards all stakeholders and experience in working in an agile and responsive manner.
- Extensive experience working as a privacy consultant, in‑house privacy officer, privacy regulator, or in a similar privacy or data‑ethics role
- Proven experience conducting Privacy Impact Assessments and/or privacy audits across a range of sectors, technologies, products, or services
- A high degree of comfort working with and assessing new technologies
- Experience applying knowledge of privacy laws and current privacy topics in Australia and internationally
- Knowledge of responsible AI principles, how to assess privacy risks in AI projects, and approaches to AI governance
- Legal qualifications or demonstrated ability to interpret and apply privacy principles
- Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to prepare high‑quality written advice tailored to organisational needs
- A passion for practical privacy protection and emerging data issues
- Enthusiasm for continually learning about new technologies and evolving privacy‑related topics
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage constructively with a wide range of stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a remote environment
- Australian citizenship or residency with full work rights
- IAPP certifications (preferred)
