The Position

Join our team at Little Things Cafe, Blackburn who are working with purpose and use your hospitality skills to make the world a better place for the world’s most vulnerable. All proceeds go to World Vision Australia to help impact the lives of children. We’re a social enterprise that trades with a conscience!

We need a short order cook to work every Saturday making all the classic Melbourne Brunch Specials, we open from 8am to 2pm to customers.

This role is a critical part of bringing to life a great café environment, assisting and producing a tasty menu to complement our specialty coffee and give our customers an experience that communicates the bigger story behind Little Things. You will be responsible for serving up delicious food that is fully compliant with food handling and safety. 

Responsibilities:

  • General daily cooking to order and food preparation
  • Maintain Par levels
  • Manage stock arrivals, temp logs, sterilisation
  • Check for quality and quantity of received goods
  • Food safety records maintained ready for on the spot audit
  • Daily Opening – Service – Pack down cleaning
  • Ensuring equipment is kept in clean working order (defrosting/compressor fans kept dust free etc) quarterly deep clean
  • Monitor and maintain stock levels to reduce food wastage
  • Be knowledgeable and accountable for ensuring customers have their allergies/intolerances catered for safely
  • Communicate with staff to ensure safe allergen food practices are met
  • Ensuring all food served meets the standards set by management and is visually appealing and photograph worthy

Who we’re looking for 

We are looking for a friendly, positive, people person with previous café / kitchen experience.  

You will:

  • Have safe food handling knowledge
  • Have min 2 years working in food service environment
  • Have short order cooking experience
  • Be highly Organised, work well with others and have an always learning attitude
  • Be a Multitasker, have Friendly customer service and adapt quickly
  • Have commercial Cookery Certificate or equivalent
