Digital Communication & Automation Specialist

  • VIC - Metro, VIC, Australia
  • Permanent

The Position

Are you passionate about creating personalised digital experiences that inspire action and deliver meaningful results? We're looking for a technically skilled and detail-oriented Digital Communications & Automation Specialist to join our team and help drive impactful supporter engagement across email, SMS, and push communications.

In this role, you'll play a key part in executing and optimising digital communication journeys that support fundraising, supporter engagement, and service communications. Working closely with stakeholders across marketing, fundraising, customer experience, data, content, and design teams, you'll bring campaigns to life through marketing automation technology, data-driven personalisation, and rigorous quality assurance.

You'll ensure every communication is delivered accurately, compliantly, and effectively while continuously seeking opportunities to improve supporter experiences and campaign performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Build, configure, and deploy outbound communications using Oracle Responsys.
  • Develop and maintain responsive email templates using HTML/CSS and apply dynamic content logic using scripting languages (e.g., RPL or AMPscript)
  • Create and deploy SMS messages, ensuring character limits, formatting, and opt-out logic are applied.
  • Conduct end-to-end QA across devices, inboxes, and data points to ensure deliverability, compliance, and rendering.
  • Support the set-up and maintenance of multi-step automations and triggered journeys.
  • Use predefined segments and triggers to initiate communications aligned to supporter lifecycle and business requirements.
  • Leverage SQL and scripting capabilities to support dynamic journey logic, custom triggers, and data-driven message variation.
  • Own, receive and triage campaign briefs through Asana, clarify technical requirements, and raise risks or dependencies.
  • Perform QA testing including functional checks, personalisation accuracy, suppression list adherence, and opt-out logic.
  • Develop positive and productive working relationships with stakeholders from across the organisation, leveraging these relationships to help define new digital communication opportunities.
  • Monitor campaign performance metrics (open rates, CTR, conversions) and flag underperforming elements.

About you

You'll bring a combination of technical expertise, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering high-quality digital experiences.

You will have:

  • 3+ years experience in email development, digital communications, or marketing automation.
  • Experience with Oracle Responsys or similar enterprise marketing automation platforms.
  • Proficiency in email scripting languages such as RPL (Responsys Personalisation Language) or AMPscript to enable advanced personalisation and logic within campaigns
  • Strong HTML/CSS skills for email and understanding of dynamic content and personalisation.
  • Experience in building and deploying SMS communications in an enterprise environment.
  • Working knowledge of campaign reporting metrics and QA best practices.
  • Proficiency in SQL for data queries, audience segmentation, and troubleshooting dynamic content.
  • Exposure to Asana or other campaign/workflow management tools.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional agile or sprint-based environment.
